Lisa Hoover:
Move to Florida?
Okay, not helpful.
A couple favorites I resorted to when I lived in IL:
1) Create an indoor beach. Crank up the heat, put on shorts, and serve lemonade and Popsicles. Play “volleyball” by stringing a clothesline between two chairs for a net. Rules are, you can only play sitting down, which cuts down on collisions with the furniture. Oh, and use a balloon as a ball. If you’re really adventurous, put a big vinyl tablecloth on the kitchen floor and fill a kiddie pool with sand. Fun!
2) YMCA memberships can be expensive, but many of them allow you to use the facilities for one day for a small fee. Swimming!

well, this is the first winter my little one actually wants to spend time outside!
she’s only 2, but so far this winter, we’ve kept active by:
*shoveling the driveway (and helping our neighbors do the same)
12 January 2009, 9:11 pm*going on our own scavenger hunts
*picking up litter in our local park
*”gardening” the snow with her wheelbarrow set (and of course i lug around my own!)
*snowball fights (i have to make the snowballs she throws at me!)
Diane/Mama J:
Oh, yeah, good question. My daughter is on swim team, so she gets some natural energy burning going at least two times per week. But we have been making a point to walk the dog on the weekends, so we just get outside and breathe the fresh air. I just did a Mama J’s post on 1/13 about travel tips for downhill skiing, another great way to keep active but takes a bit more planning than walking the dog!
