For me, it's really important to start my day with some quiet time of reading, praying, or just thinking. If I have to wake up and hit the ground running to get the kids to school, I just can't seem to achieve peace of mind for the rest of the day. So for over a decade now, I've made it a habit on most mornings to wake up 15-30 minutes before everyone else in the house, so I can get my "zen" time. If my husband wakes up, I've asked him to give me those minutes alone - even though I loved spending time with him - so that I can start the day feeling peaceful, grounded, and calm.
